Short answer: AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) is the work of making your cleaning company's website and listings the source AI answer engines use when customers ask questions like "how much is a deep clean?" or "who does move-out cleaning near me?". Start by listing your customers' top questions, answering each one directly at the top of the right page, adding FAQ and Service schema, and keeping your business facts identical everywhere.

Why answer engines matter now

Customers increasingly get an answer before they see a list of websites. Google shows AI Overviews at the top of many searches. ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini answer in full sentences. Voice assistants read out a single reply.

For a cleaning company, that means the old goal ("rank on page one") now has a partner goal: be the answer that's quoted.

AEO vs. SEO vs. GEO

SEO AEO GEO
Goal Rank pages in results Be the direct answer Be recommended in AI answers
Unit A page A question Your brand/entity
Main levers Relevance, links, technical Answer-first content, FAQs, schema Consistency, reviews, mentions

They share one foundation: a clear, crawlable website and trusted business information. See GEO for cleaning companies.

Five steps to start

  1. List 20 real questions your office hears every week: pricing, what's included, supplies, pets, insurance, areas, cancellations.
  2. Assign each question to a page. Pricing to the pricing or service page, "what's included" to the service page, policies to the FAQ page.
  3. Answer first. Put a direct 1–3 sentence answer at the top of the section, then the detail.
  4. Add structured data: FAQPage for visible Q&As, Service on service pages, LocalBusiness with consistent details.
  5. Check the answers monthly in Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and improve pages that should be winning.

A quick example

Before: "We provide top-quality deep cleaning services tailored to your needs."

After: "A deep clean covers everything in a standard clean plus inside appliances, baseboards, cabinet fronts, light fixtures and detailed bathroom scrubbing. Most homes take 4–6 hours with a team of two." (Use your own real numbers.)

The second version gives an answer engine something it can quote.

Frequently asked questions

Do small cleaning companies need AEO?

Yes, and small companies can win it. Answer engines care more about clear, specific answers than company size. A local cleaner with a clear deep-cleaning checklist can be quoted ahead of a national directory.

Is AEO expensive?

Most AEO work is rewriting and organizing content you already have, plus structured data. It's usually far cheaper than ongoing ad spend.
