# The GEO guide for cleaning companies

How generative AI decides which cleaning companies to recommend, and a step-by-step plan to make yours one of them.

**Short answer:** Generative AI tools recommend businesses they can clearly identify and that several trusted sources agree on. For a cleaning company, GEO means making your business facts identical everywhere, earning detailed recent reviews, getting mentioned on trusted local and industry sites, publishing clear service and area content with real specifics, allowing AI crawlers, and tracking a fixed set of prompts each month to see whether you're recommended.

## How generative AI picks businesses

When someone asks "Who's the best house cleaner in Plano?", the AI combines information from search results, business listings, review platforms and websites it can access. It tends to favor businesses that are:

- **Clearly identifiable:** same name, location, services everywhere
- **Well reviewed:** strong ratings and descriptive, recent reviews
- **Mentioned by others:** directories, local news, associations, comparison lists
- **Well documented:** websites that state services, areas and prices plainly
- **Current:** recent reviews, posts and page updates

## Step 1: Benchmark your AI visibility

Write 15–30 prompts your customers might use:

- "best [service] in [city]"
- "affordable move-out cleaning near [neighborhood]"
- "commercial cleaning company for medical offices in [city]"
- "is [your company] a good cleaning company?"

Run them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Mode. Record who's named, how you're described and which sources are cited.

## Step 2: Fix entity consistency

| Platform | Check |
| --- | --- |
| Website | Name, phone, services, areas, about page, schema |
| Google Business Profile | Categories, services, areas, description |
| Bing Places | Same details (feeds Microsoft Copilot) |
| Apple Business Connect | Same details (Apple Maps, Siri) |
| Yelp, Facebook, BBB, Nextdoor | Same details, no duplicates |

## Step 3: Strengthen reviews

Ask every customer, by text, right after the job. Encourage them to mention the service and their area in their own words. Reply to every review. AI summaries often paraphrase review themes.

## Step 4: Earn trusted mentions

- Local chamber and association member pages
- Local news or community features
- Partner and supplier pages
- Relevant "best of" lists from reputable local publications (earned, not bought)
- Industry directories

## Step 5: Publish content AI can use

- Service pages with what's included, starting prices or ranges, and areas
- Comparison content (standard vs. deep cleaning, in-house vs. outsourced janitorial)
- First-hand detail: your process, training, guarantees, real examples
- Clear about page: who owns and runs the business

## Step 6: Technical access

- robots.txt allows AI search crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, Applebot)
- Important content in HTML text, not images or scripts
- Organization, LocalBusiness and Service structured data
- An llms.txt summary at your site root (optional)

## Step 7: Track monthly

Re-run your prompt set monthly. Track mention rate, description accuracy and cited sources alongside calls and leads.
